The plane flying challenge

The plane flying challenge

We’re gearing up for an exhilarating day packed with challenges and fun!

To kick things off, we’ll be dividing you into teams of five, and we’ll begin with a briefing to outline what the day has in store. The day is split into two thrilling parts:

Part One

Can you beat John Collins’ Guinness record for paper plane flight?

This phase is all about putting your skills to the test against a world-class challenge. Your mission? To break the current Guinness World Record for paper airplane flight, held by John Collins. Each team will have a 20-minute window to refine the design of the paper airplane that holds this record and launch it to cover the longest possible distance. No limits on attempts! Teams will go head-to-head on a course filled with obstacles and challenges, earning points along the way.

Part Two

Crafting lightweight wooden aircraft

In the second part, creativity and craftsmanship will be your best friends. Each team’s task is to design a lightweight wooden plane, measuring approximately 30 cm in length. You’ll have access to a variety of recyclable materials, templates, and components to assemble the perfect aircraft. From wings to fuselage, every element of the plane will be meticulously chosen by your team.

Once the designs are ready, we’ll head over to the flight strip to subject your freshly crafted planes to several exciting challenges:

1. Longest distance flight: We’ll launch the planes to see which one covers the greatest distance.

2. Obstacle course flight (with points): Planes will navigate obstacles while racking up points based on their finesse.

3. Longest flight duration: We’ll determine which aircraft can stay airborne the longest.

The competition isn’t just about flight metrics; we’ll also be assessing your creativity, design, and the originality of your aircraft. But above all, a positive attitude and good humour will be your secret weapons!

Get ready for a day filled with teamwork, exhilarating challenges, and infectious laughter.
